ROCK INSTRUMENTALS OF ALL TIME ON SHOW #5223

This show is Part Two of a Two part series featuring some of
the greatest and most famous instrumentals from the first decade
of Rock and Roll.
Not all instrumentals back then were strictly Rock and Roll but
were rather "Pop" instrumentals. Some examples of this are
contained in the two shows. It should be realized that for those
of us who were teenagers back then recordings such as 'Autumn Leaves'
and "So Rare'" though not Rock and Roll are part of our memories
of that era and were played on the radio along side the Rock and
Roll tunes that we loved. They are integrated into our memory
of what that "Golden Era" to offer with respect to the music.
The play list is as follows:

1. Rebel Rouser-Duane Eddy  1958
2. Tequila-The Champs   1958
3. Stick Shift-The Duals  1961
4. The Happy Organ - Dave Baby Cortez  1959
5. Manhattan Spiritual-The Reg Owens Orchestra  1958
6. Cast Your Fate To The Winds-Sounds Orchestral  1965
7. Moonglow and Theme From Picnic-Morris Stoloff  1956
8. Bongo Rock-Preston Epps  1959
9. Teen Beat-Sandy Nelson  1959
10. Apache-Jorgen Ingman  1961
11. Rumble-Link Wray and His Ray Men  1958
12. Crossfire-Johnny and The Hurricanes  1959
13. Movin and groovin-Duane Eddy  1957
14. Perfidia-The Ventures   1960

18. Soft Summer Breeze-Eddie Heywood   1956
19. Soul Twist-King Curtis and The Noble Knights  1962

EARLY 60S POP STAR SENSATION PASSES AWAY AT 68.
RIP - LESLEY GORE

Lesley Gore, a teen artist embraced by other teens when she
sang "It's My Party" in 1963, died Monday of cancer in Manhattan.
She was 68 years old.
Gore's string of hits came before 1960s counterculture reached
its heights. Gore's clear emphatic and authoritative voice helped
her define the sound of the post-Elvis, pre-Beatle rock and roll.
And her first hits helped set the stage for later hits such as
Aretha Franklin's "Respect" or Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."
Gore was one of the first teen sensations. Her signing to the Mercury
record label not only started her recording career but restarted
the career of Quincy Jones, who had just become head of A&R for
Mercury Records.
"In the beginning, I was not dealing with pop hits at all," Quincy Jones
told NPR's Morning Edition in 2001. Jones was struggling as a record
executive. "They had a demo of this little girl that had been submitted,
and I caught it as it was being thrown back ... to Irving [Green,
then-president of Mercury records]," Jones said. "And I liked it because
she sang in tune, and she had a nice sound, a very identifiable sound,
and that was the first pop record I made, was Lesley Gore, 'It's My Party.' "
Jones mentored the then-16-year-old Gore. "He taught me what to do in
the studio. He taught me how to do it," she told World Café in 2005.
"But he felt it was really important for me to understand live
performing." Jones took Gore on a tour of New York's jazz club scene where
she learned from greats such as Peggy Lee and Sarah Vaughn.
"He would literally talk to me during the performance and say: watch this,
look at this, listen to what the drummer does," Gore said.
In addition to her pop and jazz education, Gore graduated from Sarah Lawrence
College. She stayed in school even as her songs climbed the charts.
Gore had follow-up hits such as "Judy's Turn to Cry,"
"That's the Way Boys Are" and "You don't own me".

Come tune into  the World on your computer!

1000s of stations around the world now broadcast online.  We have a
link to some of the internet top directories to help you find these stations.

============================================
Rock-it Radio Program Webpage Reminder

Remember, if the show that you want to hear is getting close to the bottom
of the list of radio shows, you should tune in as soon as you can. These shows
to have a high audio quality require a lot of internet bandwidth and memory.
And currently we can only afford the
30
latest shows online here at Rock-it Radio.

So, when a new show is put online it knocks the oldest one off the Rock-it Radio
archives page.  Usually a show will at least last 16 to 20 days, once it is placed in
the archives.

============================================
OUR SISTER STATION FIRST NATIONS BROADCASTING.

We invite you to also check out our sister station -- First Nations
Broadcasting. And tune into the rather Cool North of the Yukon and Alaska
with our very own Debbie Snowdove!

============================================
Well that is just about it for this newsletter and playlists of our latest
shows. We hope that you enjoy them.
We will do our best to keep these shows on for at least 14
days and hopefully 21 days.
All the best always,
Bennie Dingo
