MATT THE CAT AND THE JUKE IN THE BACK SHOW
FEATURING THE MUSIC OF ROY BROWN ON
ROCK-IT RADIO SHOW #4214
Roy Brown
Roy Brown was one of early R&B's undisputed blues shouters.
He burst on the scene in 1947 with the original recording of
"Good Rockin' Tonight," which would become a rock n' roll and
blues classic when covered by Wynonie Harris, Elvis Presley and
countless others. He managed to chart 16 R&B hits from 1947-1957,
most of them in the late '40s and early '50s. Many of these songs
never get played on the radio anymore, but this week's "Juke In
The Back" with Matt The Cat will set the record straight as we spin
every charting hit of Roy Brown's career. We'll dig on Brown's jump
blues, his ballads and his late career New Orleans comeback.
So get down to the sound of Good Rockin' Roy Brown on this week's
"Juke In The Back," the "soul that came BEFORE rock n' roll!"
1. Swanee River Boogie - Albert Ammons - Mercury 1947

NEW ROCK-IT RADIO DJ - JACK VAN OERS AND THE
ROCKIN' WINDMILL SHOW ADDED TO ROCK-IT RADIO
This past week we have added two new DJ's here at Rock-it
Radio. His premiere show airs in our program webpage as show
#4223. Here is Jack's welcome letter to our listeners.
Hello rock 'n' roll / rockabilly fans. My name is Jack van Oers.
Born in 1949, just a few years before the musical revolution
called rock 'n roll. My wife and I are living in a small village
called St. Willebrord in the South-West of The Netherlands.
Where a lot of people still appreciate the golden oldies.
Since 1998 I host a weekly 2-hours radio show at Radio Rucphen
FM in the Netherlands. The music played in these shows are all
rock 'n' roll related. From Doo-Wop to Country Rock and from
Indorock to Rockabilly. Rockabilly is my favorite kind of rock
and roll. Mainly from the 50's and early 60's. But I also love
the music from the European rock 'n roll / rockabilly revival in
the 70's and 80's.
After working for an American company for about 36 years I retired
in 2010. Time for a new challenge at Rock-It Radio. My show will
be called - The Rockin' Windmill Show. Most of the songs will be
from the 50's and early 60's. European recordings will be included.
Enjoy the music and don't be shy when you have requests and/or
comments!
If you would like to write to Jack and welcome him aboard you
can by e mailing him at: rockinwindmill@rockitradio.net

WELCOME ABOARD OUR OTHER NEW DJ - TONY WARNER
AND THE TIMELESS TRACKS SHOW.
Along with Jack - Tony aired his broadcast on the same date of
2 August, 2012. His show is listed as show #4224 in our program
page this week and is a great mix of oldies from all genres just like
it was presented back then in radio. Tony writes.
Born in 1947 in Hanover, PA about 40 miles North of Baltimore,
I got a heavy dose of Baltimore's R&B, Doo-Wop and Pop music
from a TV dance show called the Buddy Deane Show. It was Buddy's
show on which John Waters based his hugely successful stage and
screen production of Hairspray!
At 15 we moved to Pittsburgh. Today it's THEE OLDIES CAPITAL
OF THE WORLD!
Needless to say in Pittsburgh I had a fabulous exposure to some of
the best music of my life and you'll hear a lot of it on Timeless Tracks.
It's a truly unique blend of music. My favorite D.J. was Porky Chedwick,
the 'Daddio of the Ra-dio'. And it was a huge privilege to meet him in
2001 at the taping of one of the Oldies shows produced for PBS-TV in
the 'Burgh'. Pittsburgh's a city rich in Rock-n-Roll talent...groups like
the Skyliners, Vogues, Del-Vikings, The Marcels and solo acts like
Bobby Vinton and Lou Christie.
Beginning my broadcast career in Weirton, WV, I moved to Arkansas in
1975 for a TV Sports Anchoring job and decided to stay, so if you detect
a little Southern U.S. dialect now and again on the show you know why.
In 1993 I began Timeless Tracks as a 5-hour all-request show on the
big Arkansas Oldies station, COOL-95, in Little Rock. The show stayed on
the air until March, 2009 holding a huge audience. 16 years of fabulous fun
sharing my music.
That's it.....that's me...an Oldies lover dating back to when Oldies were Newies...
If you would like to welcome Tony to Rock-it Radio and maybe send a request
he wants to know who around the world is tuning into his show. You can at
write to him at: timelesstracks@rockitradio.net

Rock-it Radio Program Webpage Reminder
Remember, if the show
that you want to hear is getting close to the bottom of the list of
radio shows, you should tune in as soon as you can. These shows to have a
high audio quality require a lot of internet bandwidth and memory. And
currently we can only afford the 25 latest shows online here at Rock-it
Radio. So, when a new show is put online it knocks the oldest one off
the Rock-it Radio archives page. Usually a show will at least last 16
to 20 days, once it is placed in the archives.
