MATT THE CAT AND THE JUKE IN THE BACK SHOW ON
ROCK-IT RADIO SHOW #6703 SPOTLIGHT ON THE HOLLYWOOD
FLAMES!

The Hollywood Flames recorded for nearly 20 different
record labels and had numerous personnel changes over
their 18 year history, but they always remained popular
in their native Southern California. Formed in 1949 at a
local talent show, David Ford was the only member of the
group to remain for its entire existence. Bobby Byrd, who
was there from the beginning, remained until he began to
have solo hits as Bobby Day. Other notable R&B names,
Curtis Williams, Earl Nelson and Gaynel Hodge, passed through
the Hollywood Flames revolving door of vocalists and helped
round out their sound. The name of the group changed almost
as many times as the record labels and personnel, but there
was a constant quality to the records they made. Though they
only touched the national chart in a big way with "Buzz-Buzz-Buzz"
in 1957 for Ebb records, the Hollywood Flames cut some fantastic
sides for Specialty (as the Four Flames), 7-11 (as the Jets),
Money (as The Turks) and Class (as Bob & Earl and Bobby Day &
The Satellites). This week, Matt The Cat tries to make sense of
this group's very confusing and convoluted history and along the way,
discovers some of the best West Coast R&B Vocal Group records every made.

1. Swanee River Boogie - Albert Ammons & His Rhythm Kings - Mercury 1947
2. Please Tell Me Now - The Flames - Selective 1950
3. WINE - Hollywood Four Flames - Unique 1951
4. Wheel Of Fortune - The Four Flames - Specialty 1952
5. She's Got Something - The Hollywood Flames w/ Music by Que Martyn - Recorded In Hollywood 1952
6. Volcano - The Jets - 7-11 1953
7. Gomen Nasai - The Jets - 7-11 1953
8. Keep On Smiling - The Flames - 7-11 1953
9. I Know - The Hollywood Flames - Swing Time 1953
10. One Night With A Fool - The Hollywood Flames - Lucky 1954
11. Ooh La La - The Hollywood Flames - Lucky 1954
12. Emily - The Turks - Money 1955
13. GREAT 78 - You Made a Boo Boo - Bob & Earl - Class 1957
14. Little Bitty Pretty One - Bobby Day & The Satellites - Class 1957

LANE QUIGLEY INTERVIEW AND SHOW WITH HUNTER HANCOCK IN ROCK-IT RADIO SHOW #6708

a true classic of Lane Quigley and his interview and show
with Hunter Hancock - a Los Angeles DJ icon and first DJ to ever have

here and hope you get to enjoy it one more time.

HUGE ORDERS PUT ROCK-IT RADIO ON BACK ORDER

What a great bunch of supporters you have all been through
the years!!!  The response of our final month has literally
been overwhelming.  We are working hard to get your orders
out as soon as possible.  But honestly in might be mid October
before we do.  It takes 5 to 10 minutes to make a CD copy
of the shows we sell.  And we have gotten several hundred
requests and payments.  Last week we couldn't work a full
week - The Wildfires from Washington, Oregon and California
seemed to of all blown here in Idaho.  And for the first time
in History we hit the Air Quality category of Hazardous matter
of fact the scale for that the maximum is 500.  And we were
reportedly above that at some times.  And with my lungs I just
had to not even do studio work here.
But we are getting them done and rest assured we will get them
to you.
===================

LAST DAY TO ORDER OUR VINTAGE RADIO BROADCASTS AND
OUR SHOWS WILL BE 30 SEPTEMBER.

We are still taking your orders and please just give us
a little time to get them to you.  If you wish to have

OUR FINAL FLASH DRIVE HAS BEEN RELEASED
#26!!!  FEATURING OUR FINAL 58 SHOWS.

It's not an exactly even number but we had to finish
with all of our shows left.
It is our 26th flashdrive and will be available through
9/30/2020 and features all the Rock-it Radio shows #6651
to #6708.  Nearly 60 of our last shows on Rock-it Radio.
Cost is $39.95 and is available at
http://www.rockitradio.net/flashdrive.html

===================================================
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ROCKITRADIO.NET ????

I guess the answer is I am not sure yet.  After we
go silent on 9/30.  I know I am going to be finishing
up on all the final orders here at Rock-it Radio.  In
time I would like to turn it into a tribute page to all
the jocks and finish on the history of Rock-it Radio.
And make some hobby based websites for my ham radio
endeavors.  I have been asked to do some consulting work
on promotions etc. and that will be depending on my health.
So we shall see.  I will be shutting down the newsletter
portion as that has been a medium based expense in itself
getting it out to all our members.  But whatever we do
you can still find out in our Facebook page at:
http://www.facebook.com/rockitface

===================================================
In closing .....

Lots of great memories flashed through my head as
I was doing this shortened newsletter.  Some great shows
and some great times with great people.  So, many people
to thank from the DJ's that selfishly did the shows here
on Rock-it.  To the supporters that have poured forward even
to the very end to keep the Rock-it flying.  But as the
Rock-it is put up in moth balls, I leave knowing that there
are a lot of other now great online radio stations out there.
When we began there were none playing oldies.  Esp. even back
then playing the songs of the 50s.  And a special thank you
to Lane Quigley our Station Manager and produced and worked
tirelessly for Rock-it!  From way back in 1997 up until the end.
God Bless and Take care one and all!!!  All the Rockin' Best!

MATT THE CAT AND THE JUKE IN THE BACK SHOW WITH
A TRIBUTE TO SWING TIME RECORDS ON SHOW #6677

Jack Lauderdale started Downbeat Records in 1947, making
it one the first Black owned record companies in America.
He wanted to focus on the growing jazz and R&B market, where
other small, independent labels were thriving. Right off
the bat, Lauderdale set up a distribution network and began
leasing and buying material from other, smaller labels. This
helped him get through the Recording Ban of 1948, since he
had plenty of pre-recorded material to release while the union
forbade musicians from playing on any sessions. The jazz magazine
Downbeat forced Lauderdale to consider alternate names for his
label and so he issued a number of releases on Swing, Swing Beat
and finally, Swing Time. This week, Matt The Cat will fill the
"Juke In The Back" with mostly original recordings that Lauderdale
recorded and issued himself, instead of the reissued material from
other labels. Classics like Ray Charles' first sides with the
Maxin Trio, Lloyd Glenn's #1 record and Lowell Fulson's incredible,
hit-laden run with the label. Swing Time is an oft-storied label that
comes to life on this week's "Juke In The Back."

BILLY VERA'S ROCK AND ROLL PARTY ON ROCK-IT
RADIO SHOW #6681 SPOTLIGHT ON 1947

1947 was one of those pivotal years for black popular music.
With the big bands breathing their last dying breaths,
the music was splitting off into modern jazz and the
entertainment that was to become known in a few years
as rhythm & blues.
For the former, we have Charles Mingus with the Lionel
Hampton's band, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Leo Parker
and jazz vocalists Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday.  On the
entertainment side, there's humor from Bullmoose Jackson,
Dusty Fletcher, Roy Brown, Buddy Johnson and Nat King Cole
with Johnny Mercer.  Line straddlers like Wild Bill Moore,
Joe Morris, Illinois Jacquet.  Jimmy Liggins gives us perhaps
the closest thing to rock'n'roll we'd hear in 1947.
We even have a few classics that are still heard today, like
the Ravens' "Old Man River" and the tune which would become
Alan Freed's theme song, "Blues For The Red Boy" by Todd Rhodes.

EBAY REFUSAL TO LIFT RESTRICTIONS IS THE STRAW
THAT BREAKS THE ROCK-IT'S BACK.

On August 31st we spoke with 3 different ebay
representatives to plead with them to lift the
restrictions they have on our ebay store our major
source of income to keep Rock-it Radio running.
Rock-it Radio always had a excellent sales rating until
I got ill earlier this year, and my percentage of
mailing our items on time dropped.  I took full
responsibility and ebay removed over 350 of our
listings.  (70%+)
Four months later restrictions had not been lifted.
We had not increased our percentage of online sales
sufficently as we had sold very little.  I tried to
plead with them, without the inventory I cannot increase
my percentage but it fell on deaf ears.  And we had
no choice but to end our affiliation with eBay. As
it was continuing to cost Rock-it money with little
income.  I will post the conversation further down in
the newsletter.
With sales and listenership down by 80% these last 4
months and a maxed out credit card for Rock-it of $5,000
plus a few other reasons sadly I am closing Rock-it Radio.
I promised the DJ'S we would air the remaiing shows in
the play bin here, and will remain open as usual until
9/30/2020.

IF IT'S NOT APPEARING ON OUR EBAY PAGE DON'T WORRY -

Recently our listings on Ebay some have been disappearing as Ebay plans
on starting a new payment schedule and dropping paypal. Rock-it Radio is
registered for the change but not sure how it will effect sales. And we
are losing our content with them so that decision to stay with ebay will
be decided in the next couple of months. However, please know that everything
we ever offered for sale is still for sale as far as our vintage broadcasts
at: http://www.rockitradio.net/store.html
and listed in alphabetical order by State then city.

KUDO'S COUNT IN OUR FACEBOOK PAGE !

If you are on Facebook and haven't checked out
the Rock-it Radio facebook page, you are missing
out on the immediate notifications of our latest shows.
It is at:  http://www.facebook.com/rockitface

But the reason I am writing is to let you know if
you enjoy a certain DJ or show, every like you give
to that show.... listed on that site... goes to that
DJ's Kudo score.  And I thought I would bring it up
as we are entering the last 4 months of the year.  And
it's very close!  At the end of the year the kudo points
are counted and the one DJ that gets the most receives
the DJ of the year award here at Rock-it Radio.
They get one point for every like or compliment we receive,
and 5 points for every shows of there's that is sold.
So, if you like them and you have the time they sure would
appreciate a vote.  If you are not on facebook, you can
still let me know via E mail of certain shows at:

HEAR ROCK-IT RADIO ON ROKU !!!

Last month we stopped our service with DirecTV and
hooked up Roku the streaming TV application for our
TV set.  While exploring what we have I noticed that
it offers .... The "Tune in" Radio channel on Roku.
So, we added that channel ... it's free!  And started
searching for Radio stations to listen too on our TV
set with Roku.  You do have to have a Wi Fi Internet
set up for Roku.  But the first search we did was
in the search box typed in "Rock-it Radio"  though
we are the original Rock-it some other stations did
pop up also.  But we immediately recognized our logo
on the Tune in Radio service.... and we are now able
to hear the latest show of Rock-it Radio on our TV set.
We thought that was pretty cool!

===================================================

OUR VINTAGE BROADCASTS ON FLASHDRIVE

It's hard to believe but we realize that perhaps our
declining sales is due to Compact Discs are a
aging medium.  And Flashdrives And digital is where it's
at.  If you would prefer to
have Rock-it Radio shows and vintage radio shows that we
offer for sale on Flashdrive in mp3 format rather then
on CD we can provide that service here at Rock-it Radio.
Here it is how it works:

1.  E mail me at rockitradio@netzero.net and let me
know what shows you would like to have on Flashdrive.
Let's make it a minimum of 3 broadcasts.  Either any
Rock-it Radio show .... or Vintage Radio Show from the
50s through 70s that we offer at:
http://www.rockitradio.net/store.html

2.  The Cost:  Flashdrive will cost $5.00 and each show
that you wish to have will cost $5.00 - nearly 50% CHEAPER then on
CD.

3.  I will send you back a invoice within a couple of days, It will be
sent via paypal and it is not obligatory.  If you change your mind
just don't pay.  But it is easy to pay with any major credit card.

4.  Please allow up to 7 days for me to fill the order.  Once payment
is sent.  In case I get swamped with this offer.  Probably sooner.
I have to redigitalize all sold shows into MP3 and that takes a little
bit of time.  All orders will have $3.00 postage a slight increase but
that is due to it is shipped as a package and not envelope since it will
be over a 1/4" thick.

For example you order:  3 of our Alan Freed Radio shows.  And a Real Don
Steele show.  A total of 4 shows - That would normally be a cost of $40.00
on CD.  All together on one flashdrive so the invoice would look like

- Flashdrive $5.00
- Four Shows on Flashdrive @ $5.00 each - $20.00
- shipping $3.00

Total:  $28.00

Of course if you order more shows on the flashdrive you would continue saving
as you are paying the $5.00 per show rather then $9.50.

And of course we will be adding the monthly giveaway as well.

So for a invoice again just e mail me your wants on your flashdrive for
shows on mp3 at:  rockitradio@netzero.net

Also, check out this offer again at:

COLLECTING AIRCHECKS - A HOBBY OF RADIO NOSTALGIA

What is a Aircheck?  It is simply a recording of a radio broadcast.  Usually collected by Radio fans.
Come check out our webpage on collecting Airchecks.

COME REMEMBER WOLFMAN JACK !!!

Rock-it Radio has a very special way to remember Wolfman Jack.
Arguably the most iconic of American DJ's.  Come check out the
Rock-it Radio Wolfman Page at:

REMEMBERING OFFSHORE PIRATE RADIO IN THE UK

In the mid 1960s  it was difficult for the youth to actually listen to Rock and Roll in the UK.
The BBC actually ran only a few hours a weekend to provide the young Brits with this outlet.
At night during the week they ventured to even tune into Radio Luxembourg to get there fill,
that broadcast rock and pop around the clock.
To fill this void some venture capitalists decided to bring in commercial radio aboard refitted
radio ships.  And anchor themselves just  off into International waters off the English coast.
Radio Caroline (named after Caroline Kennedy the U.S. President's daughter at the time)
and  Radio London being the most famous.  Rock-it Radio  has a website dedicated to their ventures
and also have actual radio broadcasts available of
these offshore pirates.
We invite you to check them out our webpage at:
http://www.rockitradio.net/pirate.html

FINDING ROCK-IT RADIO ON THE 'TUNE IN RADIO' CELL PHONE APP.

We have had a few requests from listeners that they couldn't find us on the popular
'Tune in Radio' App. on Android and PC and iphones.  Running a search of 'Rock-it Radio'
will actually list 100s of Rock stations.
So, the best way to find us on this very thorough and extensive app. that
I love using myself is -
run a search on 'rockabilly' - there you will easily find
Rock-it Radio listed.
Our Tune in Radio App. webpage is also at:
http://tunein.com/station/?stationId=41878

HOW TO ORDER OLD ROCK-IT RADIO SHOWS = YOUR PURCHASES HELP US STAY ONLINE!!!

We have received many inquiries on how to order Rock-it Radio shows that  are no longer in
our on archives webpage.  These shows are still available on CD and mailed to you within 24
hours of receiving payment.
To help search for older shows that you may be looking for you may want to check the Rock-it
Radio blog site.  Old newsletters describing the shows and playlists

are archived there and there is a menu bar on the right side that breaks down every playlist

by month.  This website is:  http://rock-itradio.blogspot.com

Then you may either pay by check or money order or paypal.  Rock-it Radio shows are only
$9.50 U.S. each and are studio quality broadcasts that were placed on Compact Disc here at
the Rock-it Radio Studio.  We have a flat rate  shipping charge of $1.50 U.S. so if you order
one or several -- it is still only $1.50
U.S. shipping.  And we ship worldwide, overseas orders are mailed out first class airmail.
Instructions where to send payment is at our webpage:

http://www.rockitradio.net/order.html

If you are a member of paypal (http://www.paypal.com) you can e mail directly

and let me know via e mail  (rockitradio@netzero.net) what shows you would

like we can send you a paypal invoice within 24 hours.

When you order a Rock-it Radio show or shop at our Rock-it Radio Launching Pad you
help keep these oldies alive and help us pay the bills here at Rock-it Radio.

And at the same time -- you are not getting nothing for your donation,  but actually

some of the shows and memories we hope we keep alive here at Rock-it Radio.

Come tune into  the World on your computer!

link to some of the internet top directories to help you find these stations.

============================================

Rock-it Radio Program Webpage Reminder

Remember, if the show that you want to hear is getting close to the bottom

of the list of radio shows, you should tune in as soon as you can. These shows

to have a high audio quality require a lot of internet bandwidth and memory.

And currently we can only afford the

30

latest shows online here at Rock-it Radio.

So, when a new show is put online it knocks the oldest one off the Rock-it Radio

archives page.  Usually a show will at least last 16 to 20 days, once it is placed in

the archives.

============================================

OUR SISTER STATION FIRST NATIONS BROADCASTING.

We invite you to also check out our sister station -- First Nations

Broadcasting. And tune into the rather Cool North of the Yukon and Alaska

with our very own Debbie Snowdove!

============================================

Well that is just about it for this newsletter and playlists of our latest
shows. We hope that you enjoy them.
We will do our best to keep these shows on for at least 14

days and hopefully 21 days.

All the best always,

Bennie Dingo
