Rock-it Radio since 1995 providing 50s and early 60s Rock and Roll, Doo Wop and Rockabilly music online! Come tune us in at http://www.rockitradio.net We also have several 100 original radio shows from the first decade of Rock and Roll at: http://www.rockitradio.net/store.html

=========================================================================

Dear Rock-it Radio Listeners and Supporters,

I hate to be such a flake and make all of your go through this, but the fact is once after we announced our Shut down, the orders have poured in, But mostly just enough to cover final expenses, then a gentleman by the name of Jim Gill - Gave a $2000 donation! Telling me to not let Doo Wop Die. And to be honest I love doing Rock-it Radio so much, that I have been in tears reading very kind letters from all of you and have not even been able to return phone calls. And then the letters from Rock-it Radio DJ's well how can I let Rock-it Radio go? I can't with all that support, so this morning talked to the little lady Jan and she agreed as well to keep the Rock-it flying. The Re Launch of Rock-it Radio 2 will begin on January 2, 2019.
With all of your support we have run out of supplies. So we are waiting until we get more flash drives from CD's and T shirts to get these orders in. I also owe many of you a personal note. As soon as we get more supplies we will be processing our orders.
Some Changes for 2019 to stay a float - two main changes we will continue.
  • Dropping our Ebay Store costs run $800 to $1200 month in fees depending on sales but will keep the Launching Pad open at rockitradio.net/store.html
  • Constant Contact is our other huge expense that we may drop - with this many Listener club listeners. But will continue to post the newsletter and playlists via our blog at http://rock-itradio.blogspot.com/ and at rockitradio.net/newsletter.html we will announce the new newsletter in our Facebook page at facebook.com/rockitface and our Twitter account at: 'Rockitradio1'
  • With no Ebay account we won't be doing playlists for our vintage broadcasts. Saving time and be able to produce the several hundred more of vintage broadcasts that we have at rockitradio.net/store.html

So that's our plan.... and it came at the last minute and now off to change our website and our facebook site to annouce Rock-it Radio 2 will be launched on January 2, 2019

To the very best of all of you in 2019 and supporting the Rock-it.

Sincerely,

Bennie Dingo

MATT THE CAT AND THE JUKE IN THE BACK SHOW ON
ROCK-IT RADIO SHOW #6330 SPECIAL ON JIMMY PRESTON

Jimmy Preston made a major contribution to early Rock n' Roll by
ushering in the era of the screamin' sax. "Messin' With Preston,"
"Hucklebuck Daddy," "Hay Ride" and his other early sides for
Gotham Records were highly influential in the new genre of Rhythm & Blues,
but it's his original version of "Rock The Joint" that he will always
be remembered for. "Rock The Joint" from 1949 is a definite contender
for the first Rock n' Roll song, but since you can't pin an entire musical
movement down to just one tune, let's just say that it was one of the first.
It jumps, it wails, it swings and tells the story of how this music is
really going to make them rock the joint. It was immediately covered by
Chris Powell & The Five Blue Flames for Columbia, then Jimmy Cavallo,
but most importantly, Bill Haley laid down a ground-breaking rockabilly
version of "Rock The Joint" in 1952. So even though Jimmy Preston is
mostly remembered for one major contribution, Matt The Cat has dug up
many more noteworthy jump tunes to open your ears and tap your toe to.
This week's "Juke In The Back" is jumpin' with some pristine shellac from
the great and highly unappreciated Jimmy Preston. DIG!

1. Swanee River Boogie - Albert Ammons & His Rhythm Kings - Mercury 1947
2. Messin' With Preston - Jimmy Preston & His Prestonians - Gotham 1948
3. Chop Suey Louie - Jimmy Preston & His Prestonians - Gotham 1948
4. Hucklebuck Daddy - Jimmy Preston & His Prestonians - Gotham 1949
5. Sugar Baby - Jimmy Preston & His Prestonians - Gotham 1949
6. Hold Me Baby - Jimmy Preston & His Prestonians - Gotham 1949
7. Rock The Joint - Jimmy Preston & His Prstonians - Gotham 1949
8. Drinking Woman - Jimmy Preston & His Prestonians - Gotham 1949
9. Credit Blues - Jimmy Preston & His Prestonians - Gotham 1949
10. They Call Me The Champ - Jimmy Preston & His Orch - Gotham 1950
11. Hay Ride - Jimmy Preston & His Orch - Gotham 1950
12. Do The Bump - Jimmy Preston & His Orch - Gotham 1950
13. GREAT 78 - Let's Hang Out Tonight - Jimmy Preston & His Orch - Gotham 1950
14. Potato Salad - Jimmy Preston & His Orch - Gotham 1950
15. Oh Babe! - Jimmy Prestion w/ Burnetta Evans & Jimmy Preston's Orch - Derby 1950

FREE WOLFMAN JACK SHOW LISTEN ON ROCK-IT RADIO

As we are fighting to stay alive here on Rock-it
Radio on social media campaigns we received replies
like what is a Aircheck?  Or Put up some sample.
So, we thought we would - We have put up the first
half of a XERB Wolfman Jack show from December 8,
1967.
To listen go to our Aircheck page in about the
middle of the page and find the link at:
http://www.rockitradio.net/aircheck.html

Our apologies for the first 13 seconds of dead air
on the recording but a special nostalgic treat to
Listen to the Wolfman.  I think you will enjoy

DINGO FAREWELL FROM STUDIO A IN POST FALLS, IDAHO

The last 24 hours have been difficult and have choked
up many times, as I hear back from the DJ's and there
very kind words of the best batch of oldies jocks ever
assembled by the way!  And a few nice comments from listeners
on the Rock-it Radio online facebook page.  It's a lot
harder to let go then I ever thought.  I guess after 23 almost
24 years it becomes a big part of you.  And if it wasn't for
the great jocks and Lane Quigley's help and all listener's
support over the years we never would of lasted this long.
I began Rock-it Radio as just myself .... My 'real' job
consisted of working parole and probation in California.
I had a supervisory capacity for 5 years when I was demoted,
took it pretty hard and a big loss in family income.
We were involved in a contract with the Federal Government
to house and help get jobs for Federal Inmates on the last 90
days of there sentence, mostly bank robbers and white collar
crimes.  I made the error of billing the Feds the first day
they arrived, I think we got like $48 a day per inmate.  I wasn't
supposed to do that.  The Inmates hated our facility... not as
luxurious as the Federal Penetentiaries or as good as food.
Which was a converted Air Force Barracks from 1946 to the late
60s at what was once the Camarillo Air Force Base in California.
I am getting side tracked here but to bring back in Australia as a
very young man in Queensland where I got the moniker Bennie Dingo
though I had at first a Yank accent that faded over time while I
was there.  Always being in Radio and Shortwave monitoring I knew a
friend and hit him up for a job .... and shocked IRRS in Milan Italy
at a NATO base would pick me up.  Then WRMI Radio Miami International
and a couple of other Shortwave outlets we would mail out our cassette
tapes in 1995 and 1996.  In 1997 we were also picked up by Palms Radio
in Corpus Christi Texas where we would do a weekend show over phone
lines.  And also over that new medium of the Internet.  The owner
of the Corpus Christi station thought that internet broadcasting was
not going to pan out and in my lap happily landed the use of and
it's own broadcasting station of Rock-it Radio.  Which at that time
was really the only station with our format.
And here we are many years later.  We always had our struggles financially
much to my overzealous attempts to get more listeners through advertising.
(That stuff is expensive you know it?!?)
Last October we started taking heavy losses in our account and that was
even without a advertising budget for 2018.  We started calling a SOS (Save
our Station).  Many loyal listeners came through from October until now,
many very generous purchases and donations.  And many of the Rock-it jocks
also, including myself.  But it slowed down and by December 18th I pretty
much realized even if we did last for December we didn't have the funds to
go into or commit to 2019.  I didn't want to make any announcement to the
DJ's until after Christmas as I know how hard they have worked and promoted
for the Rock-it.  So we waited until Boxing Day (yesterday the 26th).
Some things really brought it home while I was discovering what was missing
and not getting the numbers we used to back during 2008 to 2010 high water
mark years.
I went to my old facebook account by my real name that has some of our earliest
Rock-it Radio listeners....  70% + had passed on.
Competition is much more for listener demands, There are other stations out there
you might all enjoy including Top Shelf Oldies, Rockabilly Radio and Doo Wop Radio.
All competing for your listenership to a dwindling number of us still around.
We leave with just 95,000 people that have joined our listeners club over the years
and getting our newsletter.  But now only gets a 25% open rate.  Which corresponds
to the 70% have passed on.
I am now retired and if I had lots of money I would love to keep the
Rock-it going until my passing as well.  But being on a fixed income now
and disabled from the ailments from last few years.  I have to be responsible
and don't have the resources to pour into Rock-it.  Believe me I really hate
to let it go!  I love the DJ's & there shows, I love the listeners and I love
doing the encoding and newsletter and promotions!
One of the hardest phone calls I received was from a long time supporter and
listener Bill Cameron from N. Billerca, Mass.  when he told me he didn't know
what he would do without Rock-it and knowing already our days are numbered it
put the largest lump in my throat.  He has just about every show we have ever
done online.  But was in the hospital from June to September 2008 & missing
those shows.  Bill if you are out there buddy once things settle down here a
bit we will get those shows off to you!
There are so many people to thank and I don't want to leave anyone out.  So
many supporters.  All I can say is God Bless you for such a great run!  and
a big Thank you to you all the DJ's past and present, the listeners.
And if any of you are ever in Post Falls, Idaho please look me up!!!
Eventhough our Audio will shut down on 12/31/2018 the site will be open in
some pages like the main website and the DJ page and our history page.
Which I will write the final chapters of our last few years, was always
behind on that page.
I am also leaving our Ebay store and other sites like the Launching Pad
and Flash drive and T Shirt purchase sites to help pay for our bills that
will carry over into January.
And also in case there is a item that you wish to
have to finish off your musical collection.
God Bless Everyone,

Bennie Dingo

BILLY VERA'S ROCK AND ROLL PARTY CHRISTMAS SHOW
ON ROCK-IT RADIO SHOW #6315

It's always interesting to see what Rhythm & Blues artists come up
with for Christmas.  This show first ran in 1991.  Some of the tunes
here came and went, never to be heard from again.  But a few have
become classics.  Some were even hits in their day, like Mabel Scott's
"Boogie Woogie Santa Claus," written by Leon Rene, who made a nice
chunk of change when Patti Page put it on the b-side of her smash hit,
"Tennessee Waltz."  Leon said he made more money that the writers of
the A-side because he was the sole writer and publisher.
Frankie Lymon's "It's Christmas Once Again" is still played today, as
are Charles Brown's "Merry Christmas Baby" and "Please Come Home For
Christmas."  Huey Smith's take on "Silent Night" and Be Bop Santa Claus
by Babs Gonzales are as wacky as it gets.  I co-produced Lou Rawls's
version of "The Christmas Song" a year before this show aired.

MATT THE CAT AND THE JUKE IN THE BACK SHOW ON
ROCK-IT RADIO SHOW #6318 SPECIAL ON JOHN LEE HOOKER

John Lee Hooker was one of the most influential and important musicians
of the 20th Century. He single-handedly invented his own electric guitar
boogie sound, which he let loose on the world with his first single,
"Boogie Chillen'" in 1948. By early 1949, it was a number one R&B hit
and Hooker was on his way to infamy. He took the Delta Blues he had
learned growing up from his step-father, William Moore and his sister's
boyfriend, Tony Hollins and turned it upside down, creating his own
distinct style. A style that was often copied, but never fully coped.
Hooker knew that he wasn't going to make any money getting stuck in
record company contracts, so he would record for any company that would
pay him up front. He waxed for numerous labels during the late 1940s
and early '50s and recorded under several pseudonyms, in order to protect
himself from lawsuits. This week, Matt The Cat digs deep into John Lee Hooker's
early work for the Modern, Sensation, King, Staff and Chess labels as we
feature his most important records from 1948-51. This is where it all began
for the consummate "boogie man." It's in 'em and it's got to come out,
this week on the "Juke In The Back."

1. Swanee River Boogie - Albert Ammons & His Rhythm Kings - Mercury 1947
2. Boogie Chillen' - John Lee Hooker & His Guitar - Modern 1948
3. Sally May - John Lee Hooker & His Guitar - Modern 1948
4. Hobo Blues - John Lee Hooker & His Guitar - Modern 1949
5. Hoogie Boogie - John Lee Hooker & His Guitar - Modern 1949

7. Driftin' From Door To Door - John Lee Hooker & His Guitar - Modern 1949
8. Black Man Blues - Texas Slim - King 1949
9. Weeping Willow Boogie - John Lee Hooker & His Guitar - Modern 1949
10. Huckle Up Baby - John Lee Hooker & His Guitar - Sensation 1949
11. Decoration Day Blues - John Lee Hooker & His Guitar - Sensation 1950
12. Notoriety Woman - John Lee Hooker & His Guitar - Regal 1950

DJ Otto Fuchs welcomes you to a Rock It Radio Special entitled
"Hillbilly Haley - The Country side of Bill Haley". Bill Haley
is described as the founding father of Rock & Roll. However,

we present material by Bill Haley from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s

Singer, returned to Country music as early as 1957 for Decca Records,
as well with a tremendous Warner Bros Records album from the year

Country songs. Enjoy quality Country & Western by the Bill Haley

STATE OF THE ROCK-IT --
As most of you know Rock-it Radio ran out of operating funds in late
November and we sent out a letter for support here on Rock-it.
Since then I was humbled and extremely greatful for all the DJ's and listeners that have donated and have stepped up.  Thanks to you we are still broadcasting!  I personally am eternally indebted to many of you that
still enjoy the music of the first decade of Rock and Roll and the shows we provide, from the finest bunch of DJ's I have the pleasure to be associated with.
The Flood of orders that came in has been able to pay our bills for December, and we have done a lot of campaigning on Facebook and Twitter for Social Media to get the word of what Rock-it Radio has to offer.
Like many publicly supported things we are constantly battling for funds Orders have slowed again after the fantastic rush that has kept us solvent so I have to say I am not totally sure about 2019 as yet.  But will say it looks promising, I guess none of us really have a crystal ball but for now I am just thankful to all of you that have and continue to support us.  There have been so many of the last couple of months I can't name all of you but a word of thank you and God Bless and a hopeful 2019 for this station we began very modestly sending tapes to a NATO Base Station in 1995 in Milan, Italy to today with 21 DJ's and support staff.... Thank you.

Radio on social media campaigns we received replies

So, we thought we would - We have put up the first
half of a XERB Wolfman Jack show from December 8,
1967.
To listen go to our Aircheck page in about the
middle of the page and find the link at:

 ROCK-IT RADIO LISTENER'S
VINTAGE BROADCASTS ON FLASHDRIVE

It's hard to believe but we realize that perhaps our
declining sales is due to Compact Discs are a
aging medium.  And Flashdrives And digital is where it's
at.  If you would prefer to
have Rock-it Radio shows and vintage radio shows that we
offer for sale on Flashdrive in mp3 format rather then
on CD we can provide that service here at Rock-it Radio.
Here it is how it works:

1.  E mail me at rockitradio@netzero.net and let me
know what shows you would like to have on Flashdrive.
Let's make it a minimum of 3 broadcasts.  Either any
Rock-it Radio show .... or Vintage Radio Show from the
50s through 70s that we offer at:
http://www.rockitradio.net/store.html

2.  The Cost:  Flashdrive will cost $5.00 and each show
that you wish to have will cost $5.00 - nearly 50% CHEAPER then on
CD.

3.  I will send you back a invoice within a couple of days, It will be
sent via paypal and it is not obligatory.  If you change your mind
just don't pay.  But it is easy to pay with any major credit card.

4.  Please allow up to 7 days for me to fill the order.  Once payment
is sent.  In case I get swamped with this offer.  Probably sooner.
I have to redigitalize all sold shows into MP3 and that takes a little
bit of time.  All orders will have $3.00 postage a slight increase but
that is due to it is shipped as a package and not envelope since it will
be over a 1/4" thick.

For example you order:  3 of our Alan Freed Radio shows.  And a Real Don
Steele show.  A total of 4 shows - That would normally be a cost of $40.00
on CD.  All together on one flashdrive so the invoice would look like

- Flashdrive $5.00
- Four Shows on Flashdrive @ $5.00 each - $20.00
- shipping $3.00

Total:  $28.00

Of course if you order more shows on the flashdrive you would continue saving
as you are paying the $5.00 per show rather then $9.50.

And of course we will be adding the monthly giveaway as well.

So for a invoice again just e mail me your wants on your flashdrive for
shows on mp3 at:  rockitradio@netzero.net

Also, check out this offer again at:
http://www.rockitradio.net/flashdrivemp3.html

REMEMBERING OFFSHORE PIRATE RADIO IN THE UK

In the mid 1960s  it was difficult for the youth to actually listen to Rock and Roll in the UK.
The BBC actually ran only a few hours a weekend to provide the young Brits with this outlet.
At night during the week they ventured to even tune into Radio Luxembourg to get there fill,
that broadcast rock and pop around the clock.
To fill this void some venture capitalists decided to bring in commercial radio aboard refitted
radio ships.  And anchor themselves just  off into International waters off the English coast.
Radio Caroline (named after Caroline Kennedy the U.S. President's daughter at the time)
and  Radio London being the most famous.  Rock-it Radio  has a website dedicated to their ventures
and also have actual radio broadcasts available of
these offshore pirates.
We invite you to check them out our webpage at:

WORTH SHARING DURING THE HOLIDAYS!!!!
UNMENTIONED SAVINGS SECRETS FOR SENIORS AND FOR

SOME THAT JUST MEANS FOLKS OVER 50 YEARS OLD
BUT YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR THEM.  GREAT LIST.
FOR OUR ROCK-IT RADIO LISTENERS!

Keep this list and send a copy to your senior friends and relatives.
As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently,
I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register
apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was,
he told me that seniors over age 55 get 10% off everything on the menu, every day.
Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of
restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other
types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements.
I was actually surprised to see how many there are and howsome of
them start at the young age of 50.
This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.
Dunkin Donuts gives free coffee to people over 55 .
If you're paying for a cup every day, you might want to start getting
it for FREE.

Come tune into  the World on your computer!

1000s of stations around the world now broadcast online.  We have a
link to some of the internet top directories to help you find these stations.

Rock-it Radio Program Webpage Reminder

Remember, if the show that you want to hear is getting close to the bottom
of the list of radio shows, you should tune in as soon as you can. These shows
to have a high audio quality require a lot of internet bandwidth and memory.
And currently we can only afford the
30
latest shows online here at Rock-it Radio.

So, when a new show is put online it knocks the oldest one off the Rock-it Radio
archives page.  Usually a show will at least last 16 to 20 days, once it is placed in
the archives.

============================================
OUR SISTER STATION FIRST NATIONS BROADCASTING.

We invite you to also check out our sister station -- First Nations
Broadcasting. And tune into the rather Cool North of the Yukon and Alaska
with our very own Debbie Snowdove!

============================================
Well that is just about it for this newsletter and playlists of our latest
shows. We hope that you enjoy them.
We will do our best to keep these shows on for at least 14
days and hopefully 21 days.
All the best always,
Bennie Dingo
