MATT THE CAT AND THE JUKE IN THE BACK SHOW WITH
A TRIBUTE SHOW TO RUTH BROWN #2 IN ROCK-IT SHOW #4623

Ruth Brown Pt. 2 (1951-53)

Ruth Brown was Atlantic Records first big star. She was
so successful, racking up 24 R&B hits for the fledging label,
that Atlantic was often called the "house that Ruth built."
This week, "Juke In The Back" continues its 3 part feature
celebrating the music and influence of "Miss Rhythm."
Part 2 will focus on the hayday of Brown's recordings from the
start of 1951 through the middle of 1953. During this period,
she would score 2 more #1 hits with "5-10-15 Hours" and
"(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean" as well as 3 more top ten
entries. Matt The Cat digs out an interview with the late co-founder
of Atlantic Records, Ahmet Ertegun, explaining how Atlantic
marketed Ruth Brown during the early days.
Next week, part 3 will focus on Brown's 1954-'55 recordings just
as Rock n' Roll was hitting the American mainstream.

1. Swanee River Boogie - Albert Ammons - Mercury 1947
2. It's All For You - Ruth Brown - Unissued 1951
3. I'll Wait For You - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1951
4. Standing On The Corner - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1951
5. I Know - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1951
6. I Don't Want Nobody (If I Can't Have You) - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1951
7. Shine On (Big Bright Moon) - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1951
8. Without My Love - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1951
9. 5-10-15 Hours - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1952
10. Be Anything (But Be Mine) - Atlantic 1952
11. Daddy Daddy - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1952
12. Have A Good Time - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1952
13. GREAT 78 - Good For Nothing Joe - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1952
14. Three Letters - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1952
15. (Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1953
16. R. B. Blues - Ruth Brown - Atlantic 1953
17. After Hours - Erskine Hawkins - Bluebird 1946

Another GREAT show Matt and there will be more to come I am sure!

THANK YOU RENATO Z. OF GOOGLE!!!!
For months we have tried to figure out how to get ads back on
Google for Rock-it Radio.  So, we thought we would try one last
time to restart a advertising campaign.  Our account was on hold
and we had no idea why?  It appears we had too much advertising
on our main page to Google's liking.
We took off a bunch of the advertising this past week and with the
thanks to Renato Z. of Google we are back to advertising with them.
He helped us step by step thru the Google maze and we are very
much appreciative to him.  And a credit to him that there are those
that will follow thru until the job is done!   Something we had not been
able to achieve with Google until now thanks to him.
Thank you Renato!   So, that we can continue to promote our little
station and preserve oldies Rock and Roll here at Rock-it Radio.

Rock-it Radio Program Webpage Reminder

Remember, if the show that you want to hear is getting close to the bottom of the list of radio shows, you should tune in as soon as you can. These shows to have a high audio quality require a lot of internet bandwidth and memory. And currently we can only afford the 30 latest shows online here at Rock-it Radio.  So, when a new show is put online it knocks the oldest one off the Rock-it Radio archives page.  Usually a show will at least last 16 to 20 days, once it is placed in the archives.

Come Join the Rock-it Listener's Club

Well that is just about it for this newsletter and playlists of our latest
