Hello  Rock-it Radio Listeners,

12 new shows featured in this newsletter this week.
A couple of personal milestones has happened and that
is why we are late on this newsletter.  After 31 years I
have retired my career of Law Enforcement.  Which will
give me plenty of time to focus more on Rock-it Radio, for
2012.  But of course also we will be making retirement wages
temporarily and won't be able to bail out Rock-it if it falls short
in these months.  So, hopefully Rock-it can fly on it's own.. and
we will address that a bit more further in this newsletter.
On more news we have just completed with this newsletter
with our 4000th Show!!!
And we will not be putting up any new shows the coming
next two weeks as I will be going North to Idaho to visit with
family.  But will return around the 25th of February to get more
shows back out online here at Rock-it Radio.

And also don't forget that our vintage radio broadcasts
in our rock-it radio launching pad store makes wonderful
nostalgic  gifts.  and there is still time for us to ship.

==============================================   MATT THE CAT AND THE JUKE IN THE BACK SHOW
ON ROCK-IT RADIO #3991 - TRIBUTE TO JOHNNY OTIS

Johnny Otis

This week, the "Juke In The Back" is proud to honor the late,
great Johnny Otis, who passed away at the age of 90 on
January 17, 2012.  Johnny Otis was a true renaissance man.
He was a singer, songwriter, drummer, bandleader, talent scout,
record label owner and radio / TV show host and that's not everything
he did.  He was the son of Greek immigrants, growing up in a mostly
Black section of Vallejo, CA during the 1920s and '30s.  He not
only absorbed Black Culture, he became a part of it, changing
his last name to Otis in order to sound more black.  He went
from playing drums at the Club Alabam on Central Ave. in LA
to opening his own Barrelhouse Club in Watts in 1947,
creating a scene of his own.  His first records were made
just as the big bands were dying off and the jump combos
were rising.  Johnny Otis did not interpret rhythm and blues,
Johnny Otis WAS rhythm & blues.  From his first recordings
for Leon Rene's Excelsior Label in 1945 to his commercial
breakthrough in 1949-50 for Herman Lubinsky's Savoy Label
to his great rock n' roll success with "Willie And The Hand Jive"
for Capitol in 1958, Johnny Otis did more than almost anyone
to push Black Music into the mainstream, creating rock n' roll.
"Juke In The Back" highlights the early part of Otis' amazing
career from 1945-1958.  It's not an overstatement to say that the
music we enjoy today is here because of what Johnny Otis recorded,
played and produced in the late 1940s and early 1950s.  This
"Juke" is truly The Johnny Otis Show.

1. Swanee River Boogie - Albert Ammons - Mercury 1947

LANE QUIGLEY AND THE MEMORY LANE SHOW WITH
MORE FORGOTTEN MUSIC OF THE PAST ON ROCK-IT
RADIO SHOW #3993

On January 17, we lost a musical giant and one of the last links
to the foundation of Rock & Roll when Johnny Otis passed away
at age 90.  There was nobody who was more important and
influential during that era when Rhythm & Blues came to life.
He fell in love with the blues as a youngster, and his musical
career started in the big band era. Johnny then led the way
to jump blues, rhythm & blues, and rock & roll during the
late 40's and 50's.  His contributions to music have been
overlooked with the passage of time but on this week's
Memory Lane Show, host Lane Quigley gives tribute where
it is due.  You'll hear lots of great music associated with
Johnny Otis, not only as a performer, but also as a sideman,
composer, producer and arranger.  You'll also learn that
Johnny's interests extended far beyond music.  In this two
hour special, you'll hear lots of comments from Johnny

ROCK-IT RADIO  2012 -- LOOKING TOWARDS THE FUTURE

Last week like I mentioned I finally retired - probably a little earlier then I would like in my 'real' or money making job of Law Enforcement.  But I heard it said in sports many times and probably holds true to other things as well - better to go a couple of years too early then a couple of years too late.  Now that I am retired, I can now devote more time for Rock-it Radio.  But that also means to make Rock-it Radio more self sustaining.  And I am confident we can do it.  We have a great line up of DJ's - I am thrilled of all the great talent the Rock-it has now.  It truly does not get better I think as far as knowledge and making the music fun as the DJ's here at Rock-it Radio.  To expand Rock-it Radio - we will be offering more contests and also more items in our Launching Pad internet store that supports Rock-it Radio. http://www.rockitradio.net/store.html

We will be listing several more vintage rock and roll radio broadcasts and begin a campaign of shows we have done in the past featuring a special artist or a tribute of some sort.  We literally have 100s here over the years of our broadcasting.
When I return from Idaho in a couple of weeks I will be working on other ways of expansion as well here on Rock-it Radio.  2011 was probably our most difficult to survive -- but we are bound and determined to bounce back and continue to be the oldies station that will offer you more then any other online.

From our DJ's and our Support Staff and our loyal listeners -- Thank you all for what you have made the Rock-it and we are ready to LAUNCH into 2012!!!

With Sincere Thanks -- Bennie Dingo

SAVE MONEY ON PRINTER INK THROUGH ROCK-IT

RADIO!

One of the biggest office expenses here at Rock-it Radio is
printer ink.  Everytime we would go to Staples or Office Mart
we would pay $50 to $100 on printer ink.  We have been able
to cut that cost in half with mailorder through 123 inkjet.  We
liked the savings so much we have endorsed and became a
affiliate of this service.  So, cut your printer ink costs in half
and help Rock-it Radio at the same time, by ordering through
123 Inkjets on our webpage.  The link is at the bottom of our
main webpage at: http://www.rockitradio.net

I hope you will be as pleasantly surprised as I was with the
savings of printer ink!
