When artists go into the studio to record, they generally lay down several takes of each tune. Have you ever wondered what the unreleased interpretations sounded like? Join host Lane Quigley as he presents two dozen Alternate Takes of songs that you know. Most of these are rejected takes, but some are underdubs ("unsweetened" by strings, reverb, background singers or other adornments), a capella tracks or other oddities. A lot of these rejected takes are every bit as good (sometimes better) than the hit versions. Some of the differences are really noticeable, others are more subtle, but as you listen, you'll find yourself noticing these differences. This is the first of a two-part special. You'll know the songs by these artists, but not the way you'll hear them on this week's Memory Lane Show. 1. Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley 1955 2. Mountain of Love - Harold Dorman 1960 3. King The Juke In The Back pays its respects to a true musical icon, B.B. King. When he passed away at the age of 89 on May 14, 2015, we lost one of our last connections to the true blues. Riley B. King was raised on plantations as his mother was a sharecropper. He wanted to play guitar and sing on the radio like his mother's cousin, Bukka White. He moved from Mississippi to Memphis in the mid-1940s to pursue his dream and finally in 1948, Riley got his big break, filling in for blues harpist Sonny Boy Williamson on his radio program. Soon, Riley became the Beale Street Blues Boy and later just Blues Boy and was shortened later to just B.B. and scored his own radio show on WDIA. Matt The Cat focuses on B.B.'s first records for Nashville's Bullet Records and LA's RPM label. His early sides were cut in Memphis with Sam Phillips at the controls of the Famous SUN Record Label. After a few years of non-charting records, B.B. hit the big time with a smokin' #1 R&B hit, Three O'Clock Blues at the beginning of 1952. From there, he would score 3 more #1s. 1. Swanee River Boogie - Albert Ammons Mercury 1947 2. Miss Martha King - B. B. King Bullet 1949 3. Mistreated Woman - B. B. King RPM 1950 4. 3 O'Clock Blues - B. B. King RPM 1951 5. REMEMBERING OFFSHORE PIRATE RADIO IN THE UK
In the mid 1960s it was difficult for the youth to actually listen to Rock and Roll in the UK. The BBC actually ran only a few hours a weekend to provide the young Brits with this outlet. At night during the week they ventured to even tune into Radio Luxembourg to get there fill, that broadcast rock and pop around the clock. To fill this void some venture capitalists decided to bring in commercial radio aboard refitted radio ships. And anchor themselves just off into International waters off the English coast. Radio Caroline (named after Caroline Kennedy the U.S. President's daughter at the time) and Radio London being the most famous. Rock-it Radio has a website dedicated to their ventures and also have actual radio broadcasts available of these offshore pirates. We invite you to check them out our webpage at: http://www.rockitradio.net/pirate.html |

Rock-it Radio Program Webpage Reminder
Remember, if the show that you want to hear is getting close to the bottom
of the list of radio shows, you should tune in as soon as you can. These shows
to have a high audio quality require a lot of internet bandwidth and memory.
And currently we can only afford the
30
latest shows online here at Rock-it Radio.
So, when a new show is put online it knocks the oldest one off the Rock-it Radio
archives page. Usually a show will at least last 16 to 20 days, once it is placed in
the archives.
============================================
OUR SISTER STATION FIRST NATIONS BROADCASTING.
We invite you to also check out our sister station -- First Nations
Broadcasting. And tune into the rather Cool North of the Yukon and Alaska
with our very own Debbie Snowdove!
============================================
Well that is just about it for this newsletter and playlists of our latest
shows. We hope that you enjoy them.
We will do our best to keep these shows on for at least 14
days and hopefully 21 days.
All the best always,
Bennie Dingo
