MEL VENTURES AND THE BACK IN TIME SHOW ON ROCK-IT RADIO SHOW #4672

I am cross promoting the Ken Strange - Country Roundup Program
because you've been asking for Country AND Western Music.
The early 30's recordings took place in Atlanta with
the Folk Movement. Hillbilly Music, in the 40's, was recorded
in several cities and sales were brisk. Red Foley of Decca and Eddy Arnold  for RCA Victor sold millions of discs.
Country Music grew out of the Hillbilly sound and Western Music grew  out from Oklahoma, Texas and Mexico. Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys were the big sellers of the WESTERN sound, but Marty Robbins really captured that Tex/Mex Sound with El Paso in '59.
This program salutes Country AND Western Music from 1949 to 1970.
Billboard Magazine started the Country and Western term in 1949.
The "Hillbilly" category had become very dated and somewhat "racist".
So, let's salute this style of music AND LOTS OF #1 SONGS are played. And please "pardon me" for saying, George Strait rather than George Jones singing, WHITE LIGHTNING!!!

1)  LOVESICK BLUES - HANK WILLIAM (1949) #1
2)  IT WASN'T GOD WHO MADE HONKY TONK ANGELS - KITTY WILLS (1952) #1
3)  IN THE JAILHOUSE NOW - WEB PIERCE (1954) #1

THE ROCK-A-BILLY INFLUENCE
4)  GUESS THINGS HAPPEN THAT WAY - JOHNNY CASH (1958)
5)  I AIN'T NEVER - WEB PIERCE (1959)

THE SMOOTH "NASHVILLE" COSMOPOLITAN SOUND
6)  GONE - FERLIN HUSKY (1957) #1
7)  I FALL TO PIECES - PATSY CLINE (1960) #1
8)  HELLO WALLS - FARON YOUNG (1961) #1
9)  EL PASO - MARTY ROBBINS (1959) #1

My "Choice" for the KING OF COUNTRY

14)  WE'LL SING IN THE SUNSHINE - GALE GARRETT (1964) #1

1965 COUNTRY AND WESTERN CLASSICS
15)  MAKE THE WORLD GO AWAY - EDDY ARNOLD  #1
16)  SAGINAW, MICHIGAN - LEFTY FRIZELL  #1
17)  KING OF THE ROAD - ROGER MILLER #1

18)  FOR THE GOOD TIMES - RAY PRICE (1970) #1
19)  HELLO DARLIN' - CONWAY TWITTY (1970) #1
20)  CRAZY DREAMS - HAROLD JENKINS aka CONWAY TWITTY (1957)

21)  COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER - LORETTA LYNN (1969) #1

Thanks Mel for the fine show of Country music

MATT THE CAT AND THE JUKE IN THE BACK SHOW ON
ROCK-IT RADIO #4674 - SPECIAL ON PAUL HUCKLEBUCK WILLIAMS

Paul "Hucklebuck" Williams

This week, "Juke In The Back" presents one of the architects
of the "honkin'" sax, Paul Williams. Many people associate that
"honkin'" sax sound with West Coast Jump Blues, but it actually
originated in 1947 with Paul Williams in Detroit. Savoy Records
dug Williams' style as it was very different than their other sax
great at the time, Charlie Parker. Williams' Sextette released
some moderately successful instrumentals early on, before they hit
paydirt with "The Huckle-Buck" in 1949. It was at a show in late 1948
that Williams and his group played a slowed down version of Parker's
"Now's The Time" and saw the kids going crazy doing a new dance
called The Hucklebuck. He knew he was on to something and rushed into the studio to cut "The Huckle-Buck." The record sparked a national dance craze and hit #1 on the R&B chart, where it remained for 14 week.
"The Huckle-Buck" was the best selling record of 1949. From then on out, Paul Williams was known as Paul "Hucklebuck" Williams and the rest is history.
Matt The Cat digs deep into Williams' catalog for a plethora of killer
R&B jump tunes that deserve more exposure on this week's "Juke In The Back."

1. Swanee River Boogie - Albert Ammons - Mercury 1947
2. The Bells Ring Out - The Spaniels - Vee-Jay 1953
3. Little Darlin' - The Gladiolas - Excello 1957
4. Hastings Street Bounce - Paul Williams Sextette - Savoy 1947
5. Thirty-Five-Thirty - Paul Williams Sextette - Savoy 1947
6. We're Gonna Rock - Wild Bill Moore - Savoy 1948
7. The Twister, Pt. 1 & 2 - Paul Williams & His Sextette - Savoy 1948
8. Waxey Maxie - Paul Williams & His Sextette - Savoy 1948
9. Walkin' Around - Paul Williams Sextette - Savoy 1948
10. The Huckle-Buck - Paul Williams & His Hucklebuckers - Savoy 1949
11. House Rocker - Paul Williams & His Hucklebuckers - Savoy 1949
12. GREAT 78 - The Thin Man - Paul Williams Orch. - Jax 1952
13. He Knows How To Hucklebuck - Paul Williams & His Hucklebuckers - Savoy 1949

FINDING US ON THE TUNE IN RADIO CELL PHONE APP.

We have had a few requests from listeners that they couldn't
find us on the popular 'Tune in Radio' App. on Android and
PC and iphones.  Running a search of 'Rock-it Radio' will actually
list 100s of Rock stations.  So, the best way to find us on this
very thorough and extensive app. that I love using myself is -
run a search on 'rockabilly' - there you will easily find
Rock-it Radio listed.
Our Tune in Radio App. webpage is also at:

Rock-it Radio Program Webpage Reminder

Remember, if the show that you want to hear is getting close to the bottom of the list of radio shows, you should tune in as soon as you can. These shows to have a high audio quality require a lot of internet bandwidth and memory. And currently we can only afford the 30 latest shows online here at Rock-it Radio.  So, when a new show is put online it knocks the oldest one off the Rock-it Radio archives page.  Usually a show will at least last 16 to 20 days, once it is placed in the archives.

Come Join the Rock-it Listener's Club

Want to join our Listeners Club?? And be notified when new shows are playing on the Rock-it. If you are not a member of our listeners club it is really easy to join... just go to our main website at: http://www.rockitradio.net
